Let me start off by saying everybody is different and you need to do what you feel is best for you! I read a a lot of articles and stories of actual moms and talked to my doula before making the decision but ultimately decided to deny cervical checks. Here are the main four reasons why! 1. Possible introduction of bacteria a cervical exam can introduce foreign bacteria inside your vaginal canal and near your cervical opening, which increases the risk of infection. 2. They're not always medically necessary In my case I had a healthy, low risk pregnancy so there was no medical reason to check my cervix 3. I didn't want the results to affect me The Dr. telling you your dialation, effacement or baby's head placement is great but sometimes you can seem like labor is about to happen for weeks before it actually does and it can mess with your mind and have you vulnerable to making decisions you wouldn't have otherwise made. I went I to labor at 40+3 and had my daughter at 40+5 and Idk if I would have gone that long if I had been getting the cervical checks. 4. They're uncomfortable Whenever I got to the birthing center after laboring at home for over 24 hrs, I got my first cervical check and I was 7cm dilated! It was so uncomfortable hated every second 😅 Did you mamas get cervical checks?
