I had a HF manager tell me to do IB before going into investing and that’s the best tip I’ve gotten. Did 2 years ib and have been in PE for 3 years now. Deal reps are important and PE naturally doesn’t get as many full close deal reps, since we are passing a lot. On top of that there is NO hand holding, in IB there is.

As a former PE Exec Assistant I agree. I took that route. Hedge Fund 1st, Inv Bank then PE. PE immediately would have been too intense and this is coming from an administration role…investment execs 💯 need too.

Hey Alyssa, I completely see your point, but at the moment I have no clear path into IB. I do however have a PE interview (gotten through networking) this week at a fund located primarily in the Middle East. I’ve just graduated and therefore haven’t worked (or interned) in IB… am I finished? My experience: tech PR internship, co founded a startup that is part of Amazon’s accelerator program, research internship for local government (uk), internship (strategy) at a non-profit. Equivalent to 4.0gpa doing Econ and Management. I know some finance (e.g. what WACC is) but would stumble if I had to do a LBO on the spot. Do I have any chance at all, and if so, how can I maximise my chances? I’d be massively grateful for your advice/guidance. P.s. I’ve been seeing your videos for a while and love the content!
