That isn't proper gouging. That's just buying the last seat on a full flight. That has nothing to do with the strike.

Hotels and car rentals are similar. Been like this for years and years. As inventory drops, price goes up. Source: used to book travel for a job.

I can't believe WestJet did this during the Air Canada strike. Price gouging is just not cool.

🙄It’s the end of summer. If you find a seat it will be at the higher end because that’s how it works people. There’s a certain number of seats at different prices

Tiered pricing = gouging. They can use whatever semantics they want but it’s gouging no matter what you call it.

It was $1900 for one ticket from Toronto to Halifax. My 6 person family went a month ago for less lol

When Canadians stopped traveling to the U.S. this year, Westjet increased the price on flights to Cancun. ONE WAY from Calgary to Cancun went from around $700 to $1900 overnight.

They could have NOT surged the pricing and keep many loyal customers thinking they are awesome and gained many new ones. Missed opportunity for the long run just for some quick bucks now.

canada needs more competition in airlines. we have 2 major than the cheap ones are still owned by the 2 others.

As a travel agent I can tell you that WestJet artificially showed 1 seat remaining on all their flights. When one was purchased at the highest rate another one became available. By doing this they can trick their own pricing system, dynamic pricing, to keep inflating the price. WestJet and Porter, but not as badly, 100% price gouged.
