@thelitloungewithmike: Through making this video, I realized that my order of two of these novels from Thriftbooks never came in the mail. #thelitloungewithmike #Redwall #BookTok #bookish #brianjacques

Butterbur’s Bane :
I was a library kid. No card. I just read there. Charlottes Web was my first novel at about 6 or 7. The ending crushed me. Then at 8 Treasure Island and on my next trip to the library I discovered this funny little book called The Hobbit, and oh boy did that have an effect on my little brain. The Lord of the Rings took some time but I loved it so much. 51 now and I still read Tolkien regularly. Planning my next re-read of LOTR on 9/22 on Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday.

I never thought I'd see Redwall on here! I never read them, but one of my favorite books from my youth was the Deptford Mice trilogy, specifically The Dark Portal (which probably also solidified my love for dark fantasy). Whenever I was reading it, there was always someone who would recommend Redwall to me and I just haven't gotten to it

Robinson Crusoe. It was the first book that Mom went reading me bedtime stories to I read them for her. I was very young and it started a lifetime love of reading.

The pipeline for me was Narnia to LotR to Harry Potter to Wheel of Time (only like to book 8). one of my daughters is around 4th grade and I've thought of introducing her to Redwall.

There was no book or series that started me reading. My older sister got bored and taught me to read when I was 3. I have been a voracious reader ever since. But I loved biographies when I was young. As well as the "girl favourites", Heidi, Secret Garden, Little Princess, Masha, Eight Cousins, Little Women, all the books that took me to a different place and time.

I got to meet Brian Jacques at a book signing that he did at the small indie bookstore that I grew up shopping at and later got to work at as a teenager and young adult. He was so charasmatic and had such a great reading voice! I’m so sad that I lost the book that I got him to sign in between moving across states. The Redwall books will forever be a touchstone series for me. So cool to see you talk about them. :)
