@leaderbilt: Does Australia give away its GAS for FREE? Many questionable think tanks and influencers make this claim, but is it true? I’ve spent a couple of days deep diving and the answers to this question surprised me. #leaderbilt #gas #royalties #auspol #christiancunningham

Do we have excellent roads? Free University? Excellent, affordable aged care? Then we're giving it away ☹️

Allowing the company to recoup their cost means that we are paying the companies costs, then they get to benefit from us paying their costs. In a normal business they aren't selling an asset that is essentially "owned" by the Aus crown. this is where the model is broken.

It's our gas, and we are getting ripped off big time. Qatar and Australia are the world's primary suppliers of liquified natural gas (LNG), with both countries supplying very similar volumes of LNG, but with Qatar forecasting $26.6 billion in compensation and Australia forecasting $800 million.

you think 10% is enough, all research, development, and expenses some of which are moved against the project are all tax deductible. Also Australian government provides incentives for all these projects plus additional grants to clean up or assist with their creative accounting practices. Once our resources are gone we will have to purchase these resources from another country. Good research, do you think weshouldbe charging 50-75%

nothing good about a 10% royalty compared to the countries who actually tax oil and gas properly with over 70%. we're a joke. But even more money can be recovered from fair wealth taxes and stopping 50% tax savings on assets and limiting negative gearing.

Don’t pay PPRT until they make a profit. Problem is that creative accounting means they don’t make a profit when they actually do.

The problem is made worse because the companies sell the resources from one part to a different part at a low price (taxed) and then mark the price up significantly and this profits is then funneled through tax havens.

No way in hell could we have government owned oil and gas companies. The government is insanely INSANELY inefficient. Costs would be 500 bucks a barrel.

So after all your explanations the fact remains they don’t actually pay for the gas, they get it for free

All Australian resources mining should be government owned so that EVERY dollar of profit goes to the Australian people in the form of services. That way income tax could be greatly lowered, business taxes could be lowered and everyone would have more money to spend which further stimulates the economy and creates more jobs

i only know that Australia has giant land, lots of nature resources and small population, lots of Australian people still struggle to pay the rent and food. Australian Government are not doing a good job.

One thing you should look into, that you will be shocked with is how much we are chargers for resources mined in Australia vs how much it’s exported for within each state !

If having a pipeline to transport gas is so much cheaper, why do Australian’s pay so much for gas. Do we not have a pipeline for domestic gas?

The influencers love to rattle on about the "Norwegian Sovereign wealth fund", which properly named is actually the Norwegian government pension fund. It's worth $1.8 TRILLION dollars. Yes Trillion. They clearly don't know Australian superannuation is worth $4.1 Trillion dollars. We're doing ok.

I work in oil and gas. This is a good high level summary. Gate tax: This could start impacting the project NPV&IRR as early $ are more valuable that later $. The project may not get the green light. Oil companies normally have a long list of projects they can choose to develop and more taxes means they could drop down the list.

Yes, big projects and natural resources MUST be public owned or at least 60%
