Sometimes we don’t acknowledge the past the way we should, so we kind of tuck it away for a little while, every once in a blue moon we open the door, peek in and shudder. But it’s sort of just, there. Never really addressed, like a special thing we leave for a special occasion, except that occasion never really comes. Sometimes, we keep our wounds like trophies of our existence, we think because they help build who we are, that we need to keep them in a preserved state, and when things get too good, or too bad, we use them to bring us back to earth. Our hurts are not forever, but we certainly prolong them when we can, they help us, shape who we are, but we never really let them go, we feel like we never really can. It’s good for your hands to callous, it’s good for muscle to snap and repair. But sometimes keep picking at the scabs, we keep pushing, and right when we’re about to let go we tighten our grips. Some of us hold onto hurt like our lives depends on it, because we’ve used our response to our trauma as a survival mechanism, we feel like we’ll be less-equipped if we don’t keep the pain in our pockets. It’s like we keep releasing the tourniquet to show that we still need it. Sometimes we just have to loose the limb. To let go of the ideas we had, to make way for the ones we need to learn, or be destined to a bittersweet, ever ongoing battle between pain and healing. All this to say, let yourself heal, it’s time. 26 hours to make this 7 seconds.
