Part 3 💙🤞🏽 March 3rd was the day we brought my mom into the hospital. Two days later was her birthday… March 5th. Instead of celebrating at home, we spent her birthday in the hospital, with my mom on life support fighting for her life. Just two days before, we thought we were coming in for something as simple as back pain. But everything changed so fast. After everything she went through, she woke up and started showing signs that the medicine was working. Her body was fighting back. She was proving everyone wrong, little by little. But then her heart stopped a second time, not because of the sepsis, but because her body was too weak to breathe on its own. That led to months and months on a breathing machine before she was finally able to have it removed and learn how to breathe on her own again, and even talk on her own again. We ended up spending over 9 months in the hospital. During those 9 months, my mom had to go through something no one should ever have to experience. She lost all of her extremities, not all at once, but one by one, month after month. The sepsis also caused her to lose patches of her hair. And because the blood stopped going to her arms, feet, and even her tongue, doctors had to remove a small piece of the tip of her tongue and shave down part of her lips where blood was no longer circulating. But even through the hardest moments, she kept fighting. Slowly, we started seeing progress. We moved from the ICU on the 5th floor, to the 6th floor… and as she kept getting stronger, we made it to the 7th floor.
