I think manufacturers do a poor job of rust proofing. SUV’s in particular are prone to salt contamination, especially in the Midwest. This is particularly due to open wheel wells. There are constantly getting wet from the road surface. In turn the salt, water and road contaminants, erode, shock, absorbers, stabilizer links, and the rear quarter panels themselves.

Unfortunately now a days a lot of us drive dangerous cars such as this. My body mounts are bad so my trucks barely connect to the frame

Common issue on those. Did that repair once, not fun but not terrible. You can get the replacement panel

dont you have like a check every year to see if a vehicle is safe for the road? here in Holland you have to get your car checked out every year. if there is something wrong you cant drive it anymore

these are perty solid cars I've owned 2 1st and 2nd gen for their reliability but sadly the the rust eventually kills them

Buick Rendezvous also rust out bad ours had 250,000 miles and the shop lift went through the floor from rust

I remember when I was a tech at ford. One came in just as bad as that mercury. Only the shock tower rotted out yet shock still on the car. Customer denied all repairs, just did the oil, and drove it home
