I actively looked up ladder lacing and that’s what came up from several different sites and instructional videos so can i see where you found this I’ve never heard or seen anything else say this.

Straight lacing is ladder lacing in historical clothing, but we have much fewer ways to lace vs boots. xD Spiral and ladder lacing are the two most common types, until you get to 19th century and that's when you start getting things like fan lacing and cross styles.

Lace styles and naming very much depends on country and what 'era' you're from. UK this is ladder lacing or commonly para lacing but the top loop is different for para lacing.
