in the UK it's normal for a little loss in birth weight as long as it comes back up within a week or two, with my third baby she was 5 weeks early, a doctor told me she needed formula, I said no I'll express, he literally laughed at me and mockingly gave me a 30ml cup. I filled it in ten minutes with colostrum, he was shocked, the midwife who was caring for me was horrified he'd tried pushing it within less than 24 hours of birth

the doctors would tell you if there was an issue. after birth they only need colostrum

I never knew that about supplementation. I felt so much pressure. We took the classes together and he was with me every appointment and during the hospital stay. Why would they not tell me that part? It feels like such an important piece. 😭🥺

My milk didn’t come in for three days after my daughter was born, we were home from the hospital. And when I started feeling panicked, my husband was actually the one comforting me, reminding me what we learned in our prenatal class and our lactation class telling me that this is normal, reminding me that all of the signs that she was getting enough colostrum were being met and that we just had to keep going and sure enough he was right I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like if I was that worried and he had been doubting me instead he was making lactation cookies and encouraging me to rest and stay hydrated

Love your content. Just want to say i had two boys via c section. My body struggled with producing milk with my second. He needed formula but i was so focused on succeeding at breast feeding. I didn’t have an involved dad to advocate but i had my mom. She struggled with producing milk also and had to say it’s ok if he needs some formula.

calustrum is enough 2 c sections successfully bf both its scary having to wait on the milk but its worth it. they will not starve take it from someone with experience. both of my babies loss more than 7% of body weight and we had no problem getting them back to birth weight (more actually) with in 2 wks. babies make up for loss time. the last thing he needed to do was to worry her about this. talk about postpartum anxiety
