Statistically trains are HEAVILY subsidized by governments, and they are absolutely horrible for moving people in the United States. Note: For freight, they’re fantastic. But given the wide expanse of the United States people simply aren’t concentrated here like they are in foreign countries. That’s why we have individual cars.

America has a 130 year road based infrastructure. It would cost more then elon musks networth and take 30+ years to change it to be like Europe. Even if we wanted to (which most Americans don’t btw) we Couldn’t do it.

Our railways are absolute garbage in this country and the subways are terrifying. It could be a source of national pride and helpful instead ide rather take a bus

Clearly, the only solution is dedicated railways, then. That would cost a pretty penny though.

Now that uber/lyft are established and autonomous vehicles around the corner, trains make the most sense for public transportation between cities. Instead of adding highways/interstates we should be adding dedicated high speed rail.

On the east coast, those tracks have been there for over a hundred years. They’d have to either completely rip out and replace the existing track, or build a new route through existing towns.

Us railroads are built for transportation of cargo not really passengers. If you notice that’s why we have much more advancements in automobiles and airports and etc

We don’t have a need for trains. Everyone owns cars there cheap usually reliable and fuel Ie 4x cheaper then the rest of the world and even if you take a train your gonna need to rent a car in NYC anyways to get around even if they had good trains in NYC cars are still more flexible so people would pick them. Most people live 2-5 hours away from a major city (our highways are 130kph) do you really think taking a train to go get your groceries for the week is a good economic or practical choic? Europe with all its many nations is smaller than the USA by itsself.
