@addiebattie5: The programs for children like her were some of the first ones cut. I do not blame her school, they are trying to do everything they can to keep her in the classroom. They just don’t currently have the resources needed to help her, and have made her a home bound student. They are working with us to try and get her back into school, even if it’s just part time. #autism #departmentofeducation #education

Billy Bob :
FYI people the department of education failed. we had one of the best education systems before the department of education was founded and sense then America's education systems went down hill. now you have teachers teaching kids their own personal beliefs than actually teaching the kids

Education is a local responsibility. The federal government has no business being involved in education.

Not sure what state you were in. But special education students are being taken care of by the department of HHS.

Yes they do if they are disruptive to a normal classroom, other kids need to learn properly without interruption

I'll stand ten toes down in these comments and in real life for your child, or any other autistic child. I'm sorry you are experiencing this.

Uhhhh nothing has been defunded? Why are you using your special needs child as a pawn for politics?

If they get defunded, does this mean my property tax will drop by over 50%? if so I'm for it

Public school honestly isn't enough support for our kiddos. We need to create our own communities and play groups for our kids

You're living in delulu land Maybe read your kids paperwork because ours in my very RED state asked every parent if we wanted to fund these programs

this is why i'm taking my son to europe. something most people can't afford (i barely can, and I'm scared) if this succeeds here, I have no doubt it will there too, it's only a matter of time before they push harder. i wonder if there's a way to develop homeschooling groups of the families that used to be in the sped classes?

I work at a law firm that primarily does employment and civil rights, but we also have an education attorney, and she has been slammed since the decision trying to assist families

my older brother is autistic. he went to 3 different schools before we found a public school in the district that could help him. I will never understand the levels of disgust and hatred people have for them just because they see the world differently and think a different way than they do

Is there a special education school the district can send her to? That's normally what we would try first before homebound. So sorry you're dealing with this 💔

I’m so sorry you and your child have to experience this but it’s mildly encouraging that your school is trying to help 💙

My sons SPED classroom was moved this year to the end of the building into a small room that isn’t set up for SPED. It wasn’t the “biggest” change but it’s a change that is hurting the students and was unnecessary. But without DOE there’s no longer much regulation on SPED 💔

get your child's most recent IEP and reevaluation report/evaluation reports. the system can't stay down forever and those documents will help decrease the time to get services started again. they could go as far as forcing destruction of records after special ed is gone (hopefully not, but need to be prepared)
