Me taking less selfies or turning off the water or lights when I leave the room isn’t going to do a dent to the hilarious amount of energy/water corporations use. My entire city inconveniencing themselves does nothing to compared to companies. They need to adjust, not us.

This is not accounting for the sheer volume of clean water data centres require. If we consider that then we are not only battling climate change, but also global clean water shortages which are also being impacted by climate change.

The storage of data takes very little energy, it is the processing of that data by the AI models that takes all the energy. Taking a selfie uses almost no energy. Using a filter or prompt on the other hand....

To her question, I do not use AI for anything. AI has it's place, but gets misused more than properly used. Most people cannot even begin to fathom the amount of electricity used by data centers.
