The first rep👀 One of the most underrated strength skills is auto-regulation ie adjusting your training based on how your body actually feels that day rather than just following numbers on paper. For me, 120kg (80% of my 1RM) is a good gauge weight to test where I’m at each session. The moment I lift it, I can instantly tell how strong or fatigued I am that day: how heavy it feels, how my form moves, and whether I’ve got room to go heavier or not. I also use my Fitbit Readiness Score, which takes into account heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and my past week of sleep. But data is only one piece, your own perception matters just as much. Last week, even with low readiness of 25 out of 100, I felt strong and hit 130kg for 2–3 reps. Today, my readiness was moderate (52 out of 100) but 120kg felt off, so I stayed there for two sets of ×4 and one set of ×6 reps. The point is progress isn’t only about increasing load. It’s about improving how you move: smoother reps, better control, stronger intent.
