@myteacherface: How👏🏼does👏🏼this👏🏼work👏🏼 I honestly can’t wrap my head around not having your own style, or pace, or anecdotes. We used the same assessments teacher-to-teacher, but we certainly didn’t say the exact same things on the exact same days 😳 #Myteacherface #teachers #teachersoftiktok #tiktokteacher #lessonplans
How on earth do you adjust for when the room is lost?

i actually don’t mind having a scripted curriculum as a resource but being expected to “teach it with fidelity” is insanity

they don’t want teachers they want ‘facilitators’ meaning anyone off the street can ‘teach’ state mandated ideals 🙄

390-page script for one month. And then students have to take exit ticket assessments on a computer almost daily and data is tracked by building admin and district admin 😳

Oh girl it’s rough out here with the scripts 🤣 when I tell you EVERY course must be taught the same as the other teachers are teaching it… word for word, assignment for assignment, assessment for assessment… it’s a whole thing. The term “common formative assessment” is EMBEDDED in my brain.

We have an "unscripted" curriculum, because it doesn't tell us exactly what to say, but it's still planned, paced, and we can't skip or replace. So I sound insane when I say I don't like it.

anecdotal, but I've never heard a teacher or student have positive experiences with scripted curriculums

I love my curriculum, but scripted? Nah.

Research shows that teachers are not good at interpreting standards and designing lessons aligned and rigorous. Scripted curriculum give teachers a strong base to start from.

And they still come in to observe to make sure we're following the script correctly bc the kids are still not performing so we must not be following the script correctly

I used a scripted curriculum to teach phonics but this was elementary school. I didn’t like it

I had an supervisor who made us do scripted lesson plans including writing exactly what we were going to say to students and answers to a myriad of possible questions from students. If we weren’t following the script during observation you’d be lucky to get a 2.8 (Danielson Framework). Ugh it killed morale. Thankfully those days are gone where I am.

And the scripts are a joke with their ideas of differentiation. A longtime colleague and friend of mine used to talk about planning and being able to punt. If teachers can only teach with the script, they often can’t punt and risk decreased engagement.

I nearly destroyed myself rewriting an entire course by myself my first year at my job, but it was a labor of love. I had standards and some old unit topics, but I did it from scratch and I love every lesson now. I can’t imagine not having that autonomy.

Hear me out. Scripted curriculum is kind of nice. I don’t always say it exactly out of the book. I said it my words or how I could best express it. But I like the structure and being able to “see” how a lesson is suppose to work and move

I was told to plow through, and they’ll get it during a spiral review before testing. 😬 Horrible.

This is exactly why i dissuaded my child from becoming a teacher. You get a college education and then maybe your masters or beyond and they still don’t trust you. You are amazing and unfortunately rare 💕

Our district just got the HMH Into Literature curriculum for high school. We hate it already. If I wanted to teach from a workbook, I would homeschool.

But what if the students need more time on something? Even at the college level I build in some time to adjust as needed how would scripted curriculum work at any level?
