I did over 300 hours as a volunteer firefighter when I’d go home on leave for 8 years. My COC denied it because they don’t know me. It is now at my CO’s Desk

That’s BS. I have never seen a timeframe for the award. And many units don’t have an SOP. I ensured my folks got theirs. But many leaders input their own opinions on how it should be earned

I created a post wide volunteer program at Fort Irwin so far we have gotten 30 Soldiers their MOVSM and 1 Soldier is also being awarded the American Legion Spirit of Service award. unfortunately I'll be PCSing soon so I am hoping they keep it going after I leave.
