I’d let them off but they’re paying the $20 before they can ever rebook with us again.

If she’s willing to pay it up at a later date it’s whatever. No more service until she does. Over $200 you gotta hold the title

it don't matter if you're a mobile mechanic you need to give them a written receipt and sign from the customer

Depending on how far you in, do the work and just don’t do business with them sometimes it easier letting it go than dealing with a lean and all that it’s not fun and than every job is pay half of front like a contractor and I say half because things come up broken bolts studs need parts because vehicle not safe until fixed

If it’s first time ,20$ let it go. Perhaps you hear more into it, because she is embarrassed, no lien, no service list if she’s disrespectful

Service people I am sure have a list of people they would never do work for again. She would be on that list. Let her find someone else next time.

if it's a repeat customer I'll just incorporate it in the next job,
if it's a one off customer there is no longer a warranty

Holding onto keys is practically theft. Especially with no paperwork/signature. Its not like a shop where someone actively leaves a vehicle to be worked on. On the streets is our word vs theirs. But if you dont operate with paperwork, thats your lesson

I would never file a mechanica lien it is a waste of process because there's no way the outcome of a mechanic for $20 won't breach the fraudulent transfer law I'm just saying 🤔 illegal action for emotional distress would cost more than $20 so no not worth it at all 😔 nope.

if you're only short $20, I'd let it go. dont drag this out over $20. you may lose that tiny bit but you'll gain a customer for life who will refer to you! I once had a mechanic who found another issue while fixing, made for a $300 difference that I didnt have right away. fixed it anyway and I paid later but I absolutely have referred others to them. that's good for your business!
