Interior designer here, don’t worry about the stackable we do this in large laundry rooms all the time, sometimes it just comes down to personal preference. If anything this gives them ample folding space! New layout is much better 👍🏼

I don’t know why everyone is hating on a stacked washer and dryer. I’m short and I genuinely love having them stacked. It’s easier for me to reach in from the front than trying to stand on a stool and grab stuff from the bottom of the washer. And crouching again to get stuff out of the dryer.
