English people do this too (idk about other Brits) - we will put on different regional English accents when we feel like doing a silly voice.

My husband and I met a British couple on our honeymoon in Mexico. We got along and hung out. By the end of a night out I would have a British accent and my husband was baffled as to why I was speaking like that. The couple didn’t seem to notice or care 🤷🏻♀️

I live in England and I speak with a very clear American accent & multiple people think I’m Irish (I am by but only lived there for 2 years) it only works in my favour when I mess up something & can say “oh sorry I’m “X nationality”

I spent a lot time abroad. I went home to the states and it seems twice that the police stopped me and always accuse me of being a foreigner. They say my accent sounds foreign. And Im like so is it a crime?

When I hear a British person do an American accent it doesn’t really register because it just sounds like what I’m used to hearing . Maybe they didn’t hear an accent

Although that’s not a British accent it’s an English accent. The Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish have VERY different accents. Give them a go 😂

hahaha I do the same with German dialects, it just happens automatically. so awkward when someone’s around who actually speaks that dialect 🙈

Unfortunately, they probably didn’t think you were making fun of them, but that’s because we kind of are making fun of them when we do that because we think their accent is silly and more appropriate for silly awkward times
