Nettan :
Seeing a lot of comments from Swedes, but as someone who has lived in both systems, let me say this, I complained a lot about our system before I had to live without it. It is not perfect, there are things that need work but in the grand scheme of thing, to my fellow Swedes we have it REALLY good. Comparatively we get a lot for the taxes we pay. It is really hard to grasp for us that lived with all the services we have for free all of our lives so there are so many things we don’t even think about, but let me tell you that when you have to pay for it yourself to have the same standard paying out of your own pocket is way more expensive than the taxes we pay. Yes you can opt out of things, but not all things in life, like getting sick, having a child with disabilities are not things you choose. Vacation, sick leave, parental leave, free school meals, free dental care for children, (almost) free health care, free maternity care, free childbirth, free universities, child stipends, etc. I would never trade these things for less taxes, because I’ll rather have better quality of life for all then allowing the rich to get richer and have a higher percentage of billionaires per capita…
