The fact that your dad recognized that your partner was there, was big for him. That was his attempt I think…at acknowledging your new life.

But didn't you say your mom was the breadwinner growing up? How is that patriarchy?

Apologies, but I'm very curious what is the issue? Or rather, I should say outside the obvious issue. What is the core root of why parents of Indian background(or similar) not being Accepting of their daughters dating black men? Is it due to a false perception? Or something deeper

I notice this is normal in Indian/South Asian families. Many don’t marry for love, but marry to status & societal standard. They are very moved by what society thinks. Many of the marriages seem like they tolerate each other, but are not in love. I’d assume it’s the pressure of getting married young & not giving yourself time to explore your options & find true love.

Your mom acted rude & unkind towards you. Try not to think about your mom. She's not deserving of you time.

Is it possible your dad might be a victim of your mom's abuse as well? Or the issues are different?

How does your kids feel about your partner? Are they influenced by your mom’s behavior? This just breaks my heart, how you were treated.

I’m glad to hear that. But I’m sorry I don’t care if they were upset about your divorce. Everyone is upset for us when a divorce happens. I was told it was so upsetting for them instead of asking how my daughter or I were. 😂 It’s crazy. Nobody thinks It would be something that would happen. But when it happened to my friends or family members I only wanted to let them know I would be there whenever they wanted to talk and if they ever wanted to get back with there ex it’s only up to them. It’s hard when kids are involved. You are a very strong person. Your parents sound like a lot of married people of that era. It’s sad. I don’t think anyone should be in a miserable marriage but these older people think it is unheard of to divorce. I blame their parents and I don’t care how the old days were. I hope you are happy and your kids are doing ok. It can’t be easy. And your man must really care about you and be understanding to hear that hate towards you. But your kids should always be number 1. It’s amazing that you grew up around that and turned out so down to earth
