Black American culture is a rich tapestry of experiences, traditions, and contributions that have profoundly shaped American society and the world. It encompasses a wide range of expressions, including music, art, literature, language, food, fashion, and social and political movements. Tutanese, AAVE, and Gullah Geeche are some of the dialects of the Black American culture. Juneteenth, Jumping the broom during wedding ceremonies, family reunions, HBCU lifestyle, the Black Church, Negro Spirituals, Memorial Day and quilting are some of our traditions. Soul food is composed of some of our traditional foods as part of the Black American culture. Equally important, Black Americans created various arts and music genres such as Gospel, the Blues, R&B, Country music, Jazz, Rock & Roll, Funk and Hip Hop. And we have various traditional dances such as Stepping, Line Dancing and more. Black American culture encompasses diverse fashion aesthetics and traditional garments, deeply rooted in history and evolving through time. From the bold statements of the Zoot Suit era and the power-dressing of the Black Panther Party, to the global influence of streetwear and the resurgence of dandyism, Black fashion is a powerful form of expression and cultural identity.
Moreover, our morals and values include God worship, integrity, bravery, boldness, fortitude, brotherhood, ingenuity, inventiveness, and outspokenness. Additionally, Black Americans have changed the world. Black Americans have given the world the filament light bulb, 2G technology, the gas mask, traffic light, blood banks, GPS technology, and more. In fact, Black Americans hold patents for over 100,000 inventions. More importantly, Black Americans fought and died to get the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968. And the Black American Civil Rights movement greatly influenced the passage of the Immigration Act of 1965, which opened the doors for immigrants of color.
