@hedgerow_healing: ⛰️ GIANTS ⛰️ Throughout the world, climbing mountains is viewed as a great features of achievement. To our ancestors, they were climbed by those seeking out a spiritual quest. A journey to connect to the gods, to gain wisdom or to divine the future. There are so many folk stories and legends about how giants created these mountains, or how they were slain at the peaks by gods and heroes. Ben Nevis in Scotland was said to have been created when the Cailleach dropped rocks from her apron. Cadair Idris in Eryri national park is said to be the seat of a great giant, and at the very top of Yr Wyddfa, legend says King Arthur fought and defeated a giant. In the Mourne Mountains in Ireland, stories say that giants created the mountains when they threw rocks at each other in battle. There are also many legends of giants becoming mountains, who fell asleep protecting and caring for the land, and if you approached unannounced or uninvited then you could anger the sleeping giant.
