Perhaps I’m biased because I’m Icelandic but this might be her best song yet. She so beautifully represents Iceland in this piece and it’s so moving, it reawakens forgotten memories of spring as a child, the inspiration from folk songs shines through while still being so much her own style and so very Laufey. The reference to forget me nots, which grow all over Iceland in the summer, just warms my heart. The direct translation for the Icelandic lyrics is “Never forget me, though away from here I fly, never forget me, my beloved.” The melody itself reminds me of classic Icelandic love such as Bláu August þín. This song feels so nostalgic to me and it’s just so touching. Laufey is truly a musical genius.
