What about the couples where the wife stays home and blows all his money on Amazon and online shopping but if he buys gas and doesn’t get her permission that’s an unauthorized purchase. Then by all means the wife needs an allowance.

We have a joint account where everything goes and everything comes out of. Then we have 2 individual accounts where $100 goes to each of us the beginning of every month and it’s our “fun” money to do with whatever we want outside of the budget

Completely disagree. We both agree on a set amount of “fun money” that’s our allowance. Keeps us from swiping the card and using cash for small coffee purchasing. Keeps us accountable and both agreed upon it.

As the finance person in my house and my wife being the free spirit, giving her a “allowance” to spend a small portion of our budget on whatever she wants has lead to a lot less fights about money. People should do what works for them. While we followed Ramsey general principles, we have never followed them 100%. Do what works for you

When you have a lot more income I agree with you, however when funds are limited and purchases make or break your budget you absolutely should agree on the amount of money you can both spend. It’s not about being treated like children it’s about financial responsibility of paying needs vs wants.

I see nothing wrong with that. If you are both in agreement on that it’s ok. Me however is terrible with money so I like the fact that he keeps me in check . If not we would be in trouble lol. However , when it comes to large purchases we do discuss it first. Works for us anyway
