The central bank chief noted that the labor market remained in good shape, but that President Trump’s tariff policies could cause inflation to rise again. “The shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting our policy stance,” he said. The Fed has held interest rates steady at 4.25–4.5% since December, angering the president, who wants rates cut to juice the economy and lower borrowing costs for the federal government.
