Omg…I wonder if this is what my son experienced! He had periods of absolute deafness (confirmed with tests)…all during an intense medical period with a lot of ER trips and unknowns….this would make so much sense! It hasn’t happened since we got answers to the other stuff….

I am a teacher of the blind. I had a student who had a similar condition but it was blindness cause by trauma. Her brain turning off her vision to protect her from traumatic things. Thanks for info.

I have autism/EDS/deafblind with severe PTSD from childhood abuse and my audiograms vary. Sometimes my hearing aids help and sometimes they hurt sooo bad. I have CNS processing issues so I wonder if I have psychogenic deafness .

I was told that I have been slowly going deaf since 1997 when my face hit a windshield i struggle with hearing sometimes but it's hard to learn sign on your own when you can't afford the class

Wow. Is it similar to when a person loses the ability to speak after a traumatic event. I can imagine that a. learning that the hearing loss was because of trauma could be both re-traumatizing and validating. B. being in the inbetween can be frustrating, infuriating, and lonely. c. regaining hearing can be almost a sense of losing self. On the flip side... depending on the community you are in (I have found different places have very different Deaf communities), if you feel more one with them, you shouldnt have to lose that part of your identity all over again. you have the means to be a part of them and they probably will forget that you regained some hearing??? it isnt like you chose the circumstance.
