@larry.floresberrier: Military News (22AUG2025): Fort Hood soldiers are trying a new pilot program called the FEED program. From Aug. 11–25, 200 soldiers can use their meal entitlements at spots like Subway, Starbucks, and Qdoba instead of only dining halls. #militarynews #FortHood #FEEDProgram #MilitaryLife #news

Would have loved this back in the early 2000's at Benning. Our chow hall closed, ironically my room was right above it, and holidays/long weekends meant no easy access to meals because it was closed. We were told to go to one of the other DFACs, which would have meant finding a way to Kelly Hill or the Engineer bat near 3rd Ranger without a car when I first got there. The pre-pay with a check pizza places made so much money off everyone. Never saw the money we weren't able to get meals with either. This is a good step in the right direction.

If 1000 soldier pay 400 for chow a month that’s 400,000 you can literally hire 20 people to run a dining facility and spend half that money to feed them every month and still have money as profit 🤦‍♂️

Are the meals limited by price to break it up to match the food allowance? or is it uncapped for 3 meals a day? because even if you round down and say each meal is $10 even, that's $30 a day. even on the shortest months that's $850 a month easy lol soldiers gonna be hungry at the end of the month 😂

They’re doing this to ruin the economy of scale. The dining facility will have a budget problem in a decade and they’ll cut it so soldiers can only choose private options.

they just need to give them their own food allowance and allow them to have the option to cook their own food the 92Gs/culinary specialist are getting burnt out!!!!!

This sounds good for the average soldier, but it spells the end of the DFAC. 92Gs won't actually have a job in garrison, meaning they'll just get constantly farmed out to whatever unit is deploying or heading to the field.

things have changed. We got a meal card, which I loved, ate 3 meals and as much as we wanted. Wth happen. Most installations have multiple dining facs, so how can you not reach one.

The AF has been doing this for years. Items called campus dining. The prices are capped for each meal period and it allows for variety and to teach healthy choices.

How they charge that? As a meal or as price of the meal? I think that’s a good idea.
