Jess :
I paid $350 for a rush appointment for only a month wait. Totally worth the money.

I was sent urgently in a small town in BC and it took 3 months. The referral was because of blood tests and symptoms

In the UK , getting the NHSto do anything quickly is often difficult but for me from seeing a GP to seeing a rheumatologist was 6 weeks.

I waited 6mo to see Dr Jones in YEG and at that time I thought it was a long wait, now I realize how quick it was in comparison. Grateful for him and the rest of my medical team helping me navigate Sarcoidosis.

It's ridiculous - every type of doctor across Canada has years of wait lists due to shortages of "resources" and we can't attract new doctors or even get the one's graduating here to stay. I'd say this speaks clearly to a failure of planning and implementing on the part of all levels of government over the past 50 to 80 years - and you can't convince me that it's not been intentional because even an "uneducated" person could figure out that you would need to plan for and put into place the necessary infrastructure (all infrastructure) needed for the future rise in population that you would need and want in order to keep your economy moving forward - it's not rocket science and it never has been - certain people's pockets have been lined with taxpayer dollars for generations - those people don't sit on waiting lists to see any type of doctor

I got a referral today and I'm a bit worried I'll be dismissed and thrown out, but your account has given me a bit more hope 💕

My rheumatologist typed the whole appointment as I told all my symptoms. Then looked up and said you have a lot of symptoms I’ll see you in a year. Only ordered vitamin D lab. No thank you! He won’t see me again. He didn’t do anything but steal my money.

That’s an unmanageable workload. You must feel consistently conflicted between managing your personal time and wanting to see more patients to aliviate the burden. What is the solution in your opinion? It seems like more physicians still wouldn’t keep up with population growth from immigration and our aging boomer demographics which will inevitably need more care.

It’s crazy I waited like 4 months for my new patient appointment but now that I’m established I can get in within a day or two. There’s only like 4 in my town so I’m amazed how easy it is to get in once care was established

I think part of the problem is that the population has grown and we have not expanded seats in medical school at the same rate in order to support the country. We don’t adequately incentivize doctors to go to rural communities where they’re desperately needed. They have added nursing programs and expanded existing programs but it’s not enough.

I had a ten month wait. Then a new rheumatologist moved to my clinic. She took me on and I got in within three months. I have lupus. I thought I had RA, and didn’t even know what lupus was. I got very lucky. I now get biologic infusions. Benlysta is magical.

Thanks for explanation, in Calgary on the waitlist for a year . Thankful I had a Derm that prescribed a Cosentyz. I guess having skin psoriasis saved my joints . I can’t wait to get a lifelong rheumatologist 🤞🏽
