Singing is very vulnerable. So if you are comfortable singing in front of your voice teacher you are comfortable sharing other emotions too, like crying.

The amount of times I am therapist in a lesson is not even funny - and for anyone embarrassed or worried that they cried in front of their voice teacher - you are farrrr from the only one - let it all out, drink a bunch of water (hydration!) and try again tomorrow 💖

Voice teacher here. I always say singing is emotional and our body is our instrument. Every student is different and I have to be tender and attentive to that. Its a balance. When we use instruction we have to be careful, because its constructive criticism with their body (their instrument).

When I had a voice teacher before I could never get past my nerves, so my voice sounded awful. Like notes I could hit without any struggle at home were impossible in lessons. He was so sweet too, idk why I was so scared. I never cried in the lessons, but I did cry in my car after 🤣 getting a new voice lessons coach this week and I’m terrified
