‘Really big on nepotism’ for what? Appointing 4 of his clansmen when he had 21 total governors. Was Ali really big on nepotism when he chose 3 of his cousins as governors: Abdullah ibn Abbas (Basra ), ubaydullah ibn Abbas (Yemen), Qutham ibn Abbas (Makkah). We can even include Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr who was basically his adopted son as the governor of Egypt.

Misha, you did a good job explaining the historical brief details, definitely these details are important but how about you focus on the Allah message about believing in the real core? Most of the Muslims are concentrated on the Prophet’s family and politics which causes all this discomfort and they are unable to see the Allah message due to Bias created among Shia’s and Sunni’s.

There was no sermon? He just gave a sermon at Hajj know as “the last sermon”, why would he give a sermon? And no he did not appoint Ali. Two groups came out of ppl who came from Iraq: khawarij and Shias. Uthman wasn’t a nepotist.

Sayyida Fatima was the youngest daughter and the only one that passed after the Rasul saws. Woulda also appreciate it if you refer to the Prophet (saws) with peace be upon him as it would constitute fulfilling divine command in the Quran which is also corroborated by Hadith. the incident of saqeefah mentioned here misses some important context into the calculus that eventually results in Abu Bakr taking leadership. the primary dispute at hand between the Ansar and Muhajiroon was that the Ansar preferred to have a governor of their own and a separate one for the Muhajiroon. In an effort to preserve Muslim unity and prevent any other division and schism that could take place, the matter reaches a solution with particular expediency. Abu Bakr does not vie for leadership but in fact defers for others to first give bayah to either Umar or Abu Ubaydah who were present with him. the primary qualm and reservation with Sayyidina Ali is not one of him vying for power but questioning around the process, which, had he been present to witness what went down, could very well have resulted in the same conclusion. God knows best. In addition, it's remiss to posit these individuals as people who were against one another when there was significant love between them all. Ali himself named two of his later sons Abu Bakr and Umar for example. These people were giants in themselves without whom we hardly have substantive transmission of Islam to subsequent generations. the risque-y presentation of how people who opposed the Prophet saws ended up in leadership can feel a little strange to anyone who realizes that a majority of the Muslims of that time at some point were oppositional to the message of the Rasul and his prophethood at some point in those 23 years, including some of the closest companions. the shift from the khulafaa Rashida to a monarchy was also prophesized by the Prophet saws who in Hadith mentioned that a caliphate would be in place for 30 years after his passing and would be replaced with monarchy, aligning with the conclusion of Sayyidina Hasan's short rule.

As someone who researched islam later in life, one critical point that never made sense was this: If leaving a successor was so necessary- which it is, the quran states the ummah will never be without a leader- why was it that the caliphs were allowed to appoint a successor but apparently the prophet did not? So I dissected the Quran and many prominent hadiths. 1. The Prophet was the messenger, never spoke out of line, his speech was gods word and Quranic, which meant to find the definition of mowla we must look to the Quran, end result, Mowla according to Quran means master/leader. 2. I also looked at the history of revelation for certain ayahs and surahs, when a specific ayah from Surah Maidah (5:3)was revealed, it was revealed during Ghadir khum after Ali was declared Mowla, and the ayah confirms "today your religion has been perfected/completed". Therefore Logic dictates prophet wasn't stopping thousands in the heat of desert to express his love for Ali, that was common knowledge, he married his daughter to him. I applaud you for your research and sharing. I will be first to say learning to question what we've been taught raises the question of who we really follow; our parents and egos, or the holy prophet.

Of course it meant Ali as his successor at Ghadeer Khum; besides the other times the Prophet mentions it. Only Ali was taking care of our Prophet while the others were plotting for leadership of worldly desires and that’s why the state of Muslims are where we are today.
