@soocanadian: Prime Minister Mark Carney leaned on hockey imagery Friday as he defended his decision to repeal some of Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods. A reporter suggested critics might say Carney had gone from putting Canada’s “elbows up” in the trade fight to letting them down. Carney pushed back, saying the strategy is about timing. “There is a time in a game, in a big game — and this is a big game — when you go hard in the corners with your elbows up,” he said. “There’s a time in the game when you drop your gloves in the first period and you send a message. And we’ve done that, pretty uniquely in the world. But there’s also a time in a game where you want the puck, you want to stickhandle, you want to pass, you want to put the puck in the net … and we’re at that time of the game.” The prime minister said the decision is aimed at helping Canadian businesses and advancing trade negotiations with Washington.
