Ive never made it like that. I use the hot bacon grease to wilt the lettuce. No sugar or vinegar. That was the way my Granny made it. Makes me hungry for some right now.

Scalded lettuce is what I've always heard it called around here. Never heard it called Kilt until a few yrs back. My SwVA mawmaw made this for me and she didn't use any sugar, just grease & vinegar.
