therapy is capitalism’s solution to destroying community. find and building community is way more healing than paying someone to tell me about me. now therapy is incredibly useful & more people should do it, but mandating it only encourages the status quo

Not woke. But therapy is a massive privilege and most people can't access it. Also it's a dangerously unregulated industry - I've met some really bad therapists.
In the Swedish series Bonus Family one of the couples goes to couples therapy even though they have no issues and I love that. It's a great portrayal.

it probably is "too woke" but it's still a correct opinion.

Cute idea, but therapy won't really work if you're not open to it. Today I go once a week, but when I was a kid I was forced to go and it resulted in a lot of wasted hours where I would just sit and refuse to talk. I'm very pro therapy, but people need to want it for it to work.

Different people need different things. Not everybody needs therapy. There shouldn't be a stigma, it also shouldn't be compulsory.

absolutely not i was talking about with my therapist how i also think you should have to have done 5 years of therapy before you can run for any public office and she agreed

i think that therapy being mandated is probably not very effective unless we come to the point that its normalized enough. Because if we were to suddenly mandate therapy with its current level of stigma i think it wouldnt do much.

Saying that is like saying all rape victims should be forced to press charges against their rapist.

Make it free, and yes, I wouldn't mind it being a mandatory monthly meeting.

100%! I’ve been saying it for years… world would be a better place if everyone was going to therapy.

Agreed - but my experiences with therapy have made me a bit cynical. We were always one session away from "digging in". After 4 sessions and $800 all I had was a couple book recommendations and "no duh" insights

So many of us end up in therapy because others refuse to go to therapy. I’m with you on this one 😂

You’ve touched on it before, but instead of therapy most people need radical love and community. Not to say therapy isn’t a useful tool, but the real

not too woke , but it neglects the reality that there are very very very few good therapists.

As a male therapist whose platform is aimed at encouraging men to embrace said topic, and who also has a therapist, I agree totally.

Perhaps I'm just trying to pick at your point or be obtuse (or maybe I've just misinterpreted one of the things you've said), but I'm pretty sure going to a doctor is not mandated, unless I don't know the law well enough? Sure, the law can probably impose that you get seen by a doctor and/or therapist if you pose a danger to yourself but under normal circumstances, it is, and always should be, the person's choice to go to the doctor for help, and the same goes for a therapist. Sure, people could and should be encouraged more to see both perhaps as it could be a good thing for many, but definitely not mandated or necessary for everyone. 🤔 Just to be clear though, your point about your mind being like a muscle that can wear down or get tied in knots is a great analogy and yes, definitely does need the same level of attention to repair and reset some times!

You have to be in the right mindset to be receptive to it. There are many people who could become dependent on therapists, or who use them as crutches. And you need a genuinely good therapist. Mandated therapy could cause harm to some.
