It’s not going to make sense to them. They won’t understand the vision because the vision wasn’t given to them, it was given to you. Stop letting your insecurities, lack of resources, or opinions of others stop you from going after your wildest dreams. You will lose friends. People will think you’re crazy. You may not have everything you think you need. But I promise you, it’ll be so worth it.

As we start this school year, here’s your gentle reminder: teachers are whole people. 💛 I share a lot here about structured literacy, SEL, and best practices in reading — and I love that part of what I do. But I’m also someone who loves funky thrifted fashion 👗, directs plays 🎭, plays piano 🎹, manages anxiety, and is supported by a very loyal Emotional Support Cat 🐾. I’ve been neurodivergent since childhood, and that’s a big part of what led me to teaching in the first place. So as you meet new teachers this year — or reconnect with familiar ones — ask them about something they love outside of school. There’s a whole world there.
