@hedgerow_healing: 🍇 Blackberry Folklore! 🍇 In old European superstition, you should never pick blackberries after the 29th of September, St Michaelmas Day. The Christian tales say that the Devil, when cast from Heaven, landed in a bramble thicket and was so enraged that he cursed them sour and inedible. In Celtic mythologies, they should never be picked or eaten after Samhain, the Celtic Halloween. In the old legends, bogles, pucas, and other mischevious spirits would urinate or spit on the blackberries. In Britain, blackberry bushes guarded the enterances to fairy dwellings, and the fruit was often offered up as gifts to the fae, or used in harvest rituals. In some places, spells woven with brambles could offer protection against witches, and if they grew near your home they could protect your household from evil magic. . . . #folklore #flowerfolklore #blackberries #wildfood #foraging

In Irish mythology and folklore, it's said that Púca spoil, spit on, poison, or enter blackberries after Hallow's Eve. I was just reading about this today from an old folklore collection that was collected as part of a historical folklore preservation project in the 1930s.
In one of the sources I read, they say the devil spits on them and then the púca enters them, which seems to be a mix of the myths I've read and the one you shared here about the devil cursing bramble bushes!

That’s actually good practice because the berries can be good food for many birds :)

Slight nitpick. The Abrahamic Devil is part of Middle Eastern mythology, not European.

in Ireland a Fae creature called a púca is supposed to urinate on them because it thinks it's funny to trick humans. the púca is supposed to be a trickster and it often takes the form of a huge black hare but it can shape shift
