If Ollie is feeling like he's missing out on Michigan fun, you guys should visit southwest Michigan in the second half of September. Grand Rapids hosts Artprize then which is a citywide art contest with entries from around the world where all the visitors get to vote for the winner. GR is very walkable (I walked to all the participating venues - 150+ of them - for several years) and has a lot of cool places to see. And it's a fairly short drive to scenic lakeside towns like Saugatuck and Holland so you can get a good mix of city and small town. There are also a few wineries in the region.

I swapped the city life for northern Michigan! My husband and I met and started our life in Chicago, but post-Covid ended up in Petoskey. I’m an interior designer and worked for Cottage Company in Harbor Springs (big white building on the corner) — I’m independent now but those were some of the coolest projects I’ve ever gotten to work on 🏡 the every day pace of small northern towns is a DREAM!!

Harbor Springs is so beautiful, and without an HOA! I’m in Boyne City and all of the towns on the water here just have city ordinances for things like keeping your grass cut. I also think we all have a sense of pride and want to keep where we live beautiful. Theres a lot of homes up here that are just people’s summer homes too so they have companies come take care of their homes lawns for them.
