If you’re in a relationship that is harder than it should be, this caption is for you: For a really long time, I thought about proposing to my GF, but I just never could do it. In the back of my head, I had this feeling like we weren’t meant to be together. But that didn’t change how much I loved her. She was my everything. The only person who I talked to. All of my stories were about her or her family. We were best friends. We faced the perfect storm: she tore her acl, we were living in her parents house (with 14 others), we had just gotten 2 dogs, she was in pain, and I was managing a full time job, building my app, doing everything for the dogs and for her, and the pressure broke us. Despite it all, I really didn’t want to let go. But I knew this perfect storm would be the only time we’d ever be distant enough to let go. We fought every day after her surgery. And eventually, we snapped. We talked about breaking up, and then she asked for space for a week or two. I went down to Miami. She thought I was going to come back, but I knew that was the end. I took Morty with me, and we split up the boys 💔. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. I cried the full 3 hour drive from Rutland Vermont to Boston airport. The fast forward a month of degeneracy - things got real hard. What I didn’t realize is I had no idea who I WAS. What I liked, where I wanted to live, who I wanted to be with. I felt lonely. I even asked her to come down to Miami to be with me again. But I knew it was a bad decision. The heartbreak lasted until this summer, when I moved to CT to my parents lake house. I was finally figuring out who I was. Soon after, I realized it was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. Not even because she wasn’t the right one for me, but because it gave me the chance to find myself. To question myself. To be unsure of myself. And then to decide. If you relate to any of this, it is an incredibly challenging decision, but it is crucial for your long term happiness. You need to find who you are, and if you’ve never had the chance to lose yourself, you might have to start. This year has been hard, but it was the best of my life.
