Mad Hatter is definitely a character that works better if you just dial it down a few notches. Perfect example of censorship helping rather than hurting a creative work. Batman TAS actually has this be the case a few times. Joker can’t kill people, so his Joker toxin puts a horrific smile on their faces, which is both creepier in a general sense but also more over the top in a fun comic book way. Another example, in Perchance to Dream, a (spoiler) Mad Hatter episode actually, the line “I’ll see you in hell” got rejected by the censors, and was replaced with the much colder line “I’ll see you in your nightmares.”

NO FR. Animated series is the only one that has a nuanced and fun take on Hatter, everything else is just so gross. Golden Age Hatter is kind of the last time he was allowed to be fun.

I mean, Joker is the same way. More silly and whimsical in the animated series, but a straight monster in most interpretations

My first impression of him was from Gotham and they added the mention of THAT part in the few episodes he started in💔

No but for real I can't just say my fav villain is Mad Hatter (meaning the one from the animated series) bc of his reputation in the comics and games

#1 Riddler Lover :
Comics really just wanna make you dislike a character by making them a creep or pdf and to me thats lazy some characters that works but to make less popular villains creeps to make them seem more villainous and evil is just lazy writing

I mean the writer of Alice was a diddler so how about we just stop glazing and doing homages to him in the first place?

Can’t spell idiot without Dio :
I lowkey prefer the original rendition of Mad hatter where his gimmick was that he wore many hats. Depending on thr hat he wore, he would use the skill of that profession. Firefighter, mailman, etc

The Creator :
I love mad Hatter, but this is why I take DC and go with the "discard canon" thing at this point.

Yeah, I don’t read most of the comics because most my DC knowledge comes from the DCAU and it diverges SO MUCH!

Dread Pirate Robin :
He's an unrepentant creep in both of them. BTAS at least made him feel a little nuanced than most comics, though.

For the longest time my favorite was the Riddler since my only exposure to dc was a few shows I never fully watched the lego villains game. Who was going to tell me that he isn't a silly guy who just likes committing crimes crimes but leaving riddles as clues?! 😟
