To everyone who says this is cruel. This saves the life of the lamb. At the very least saves a TON of effort for the farmer. If not done, they have to bottle feed the baby for months. Not easy or fun. And the new mother does not have to mourn a lost baby.

it's also important when doing this to quickly remove the dead lamb so the mother doesn't realize that her lamb has passed. if she does, she could easily reject the new lamb because she knows her lamb died.
