Another firm case for art style over realism. This game is from one of the ugliest eras in gaming (the brown and grainy mid/late 2000s) and it still looks incredible

Crystal tools, the white engine, and luminous. They almost bankrupted the company MULTIPLE times. The graphics were legit too powerful for the consoles. Anyway, yeah the graphics are pretty good still.

Square used to have a habit of using tech that was a little bit beyond what the "current gen" could actually handle. They still do with FF to be honest. Both XV and XVI ran horrendously on the hardware they released on (base PS4 and base PS5) but look amazing on beefier tech.

stylization plus good character design. it's why stuff like borderlands 2 and Dragon Age 2 still look gorgeous despite being as old as dirt

I know the answer to this, they made the characters extremely detailed but to balance the gpu everything else looks bad. Just look at any NPC

I talk about this game like twice a week bro it was so incredible. Same year my mom passed away and idk all the themes of the game brought me out of my numbness, even if for a short while. Every character was so important for me. (Sorry for yapping, just happy to see other people who actually show interest in this beautiful game)
