Now that I have kids, I finally understand that look. She's transporting herself back in time, she's touching her babies' tiny hands again, before their little knuckle dimples disappeared, before they learned anything but love and joy and safety in this world. My babies are still this small, and I'm so lucky, but now I see them reflected in every other baby in this world, and in every adult and elderly person I see, who was once tenderly held and loved by their own mother. I can guarantee I'll be this woman when I'm older.
