Not to be that person, but you can tell that it’s actually in distress by the squared off puffed out forehead typically their heads are sleek, but when they feel that they’re in danger, they puff up their foreheads and elongate their neck to appear bigger

love this! happened to me on my solo trip. I rented an airbnb on lake w kayaks. Would go out every morning kayaking with a little thermos of coffee. momma loon with wee babies would greet me every morning.

One time I was in my canoe and a loon called and I recorded it and played it back for it and we just kept singing back and forth for a while and it was honestly magical
