@cbcbritishcolumbia: The province has released housing targets for the next five years for another set of cities. They include Burnaby, Richmond and Coquitlam. Some are questioning the province’s commitment towards funding infrastructure and wonder whether the new homes will be affordable. #housing #burnaby #Vancouver #britishcolumbia #cbcnews
look at these buildings around 9:00 at night and see how my lights are on.... nobody lives in these... these are placeholders for investors for a rainy day.

Not seeing more built because no one can afford what's being built. Taxes need to come down.

The city is very obviously responsible when taxes and fees at the local and regional level are >$150,000 per unit

30 years of no building. 65% of the cost of building a house goes to the government.

What BC should understand is Carney was joking when he talked about war time home building.

It’s all great that we’re building homes however, we also have to keep up with the infrastructure that goes a long increasing the population, the roads in Burnaby are old, outdated and poorly managed to say the least. Burnaby used to be an example to follow back in the Corrigan days.

the municipality is 100% in control of building. via permits, zoning and funding. the housing crisis was caused by federal, municipal and private interests all colluding together. the more a house costs, the higher tax it fetches. this is not a democracy, its a tax farm.

that's great if the condos are affordable, if not then it's really pointless

Get Jim Pattison and the rest of the foetid Rich and
Religions to shell out some real taxes and you'll have all you need to build affordable housing and provide comprehensive services.

Sounds like BC should be building the rest of that housing to meet those targets 🙄

Building homes but not addressing affordability for Canadian and PRIORITIZING first time home buyers is useless but good for “headlines” and votes.

Burnaby really needs more culture and performance spaces. It’s such a sad, car-centric dumpy suburb.

That's great but interest rates are still high and no buyers. This is essentially creating another Toronto condo crisis.

is this a joke ? does anyone take this seriously? this country relies on real estate speculation. housing is never going to be affordable until Canada steps up industrial and entrepreneurial growth. Foreign money buying property has always been the problem

Andy Yan is not a housing expert. He is an urban planner and his continual featuring on CBc is an indictment of the low quality of coverage and editorial control

so like verbon want 1829 new houses, let pretend we get couples in these houses and they have 1 to 2 kids each, our schools are already maxed and hospitals are maxed, no infrastructure for these cities if met , collapse imminent
