They may have been adults but their mental capacity was not that of an adult due to the trauma and abuse. Soooo many people failed these poor boys when they were younger. Not to mention when they went to trial by suppressing evidence and again at the hearing. I understand if they want to use all of Erik's infractions against him but Lyle hasn't had any major incidents. I guarantee every person that's been paroled has had at least 1 infraction. My heart hurts for them! I don't agree with what they did but I think they have finally grasped it.
