Most conservatives still have those values, but not necessarily all Republicans. The Republican tent is much larger than before. As you mentioned, compromise. The right is much more of a populist movement now, with conservatives just being a part of it.

Sorry but fiscal responsibility was always just a talking point. Republican politicians were only responsible when there was a democratic president because cutting spending then could hurt the president. When we have a republican president they are like kids in a candy store

But did you vote for Trump? Because if you did then everything you just said was Null and Void. Conservatives are an endangered species and used to try to hold the status quo. This new breed of Republicans are literally Regressives, pulling us back into the past.

As a former conservative, a lot of people said this, but one of the reasons I left is because those core thoughts didn’t align with the policies they were actually passing for decades.

Good points. Fiscal conservative here. Current administration policy= short sighted, irresponsible, frivolous, preferencial treatment/favoritism, and ok with trillions of debt laced on our kids, grandkids, great grandkids etc.

The GOP is no longer a conservative party. They started as a liberal party and have been swinging right-ward since Booth stole the stage. They've now passed traditional American conservativism and are now entering authoritarianism, about as right as right can go. Worse, they're dragging the Dems along with them. Eventually their paths may even cross again.

I think Republicans that we grew up with still exist but I think Maga has hijacked the name of the Republican party. Republicans can still say no this man is going to far but Maga .... MAGA can't see beyond Trump is our Lord and Savior
