Zil Kamal Mokhtar :
The 24 August 2025 Segamat earthquake (M4.1, depth 10 km) was an intraplate quake, similar to past rare tremors in Peninsular Malaysia such as the 1922 Johor quakes near Muar (M5.4) and Kota Tinggi (M5.0), the Bukit Tinggi swarms (2007–2009, M1.7–4.2), Tasik Kenyir (1984–85, 2016, up to M4.6), Tasik Temenggor (2013, M4.1), Kuala Pilah (2007–2009, M2.7–3.2), Jerantut/Lepar (2009, M3.2), and Manjung (2009, M2.6). Though generally less severe than major tectonic quakes, their shallow depth means tremors are strongly felt and can still cause minor localised damage, as seen in Segamat.
