Mermaid, our little miracle. Mermaid was just one day old when we rescued her and her brothers. So tiny. So delicate. We held her in the palm of our hands, not knowing the uphill battle she was about to face. Soon after, she developed a painful abscess on her neck and came down with aspiration pneumonia. She couldn’t breathe properly, couldn’t nurse, and started to fade. We rushed her into an oxygen chamber and began the exhausting routine of draining the abscess, administering antibiotics, giving subcutaneous fluids, and feeding her through a tube, because she was simply too weak to eat. She spent 278 hours, nearly 12 days, in that oxygen chamber, fighting with everything she had. And somehow, against all odds, she pulled through. Now, just two and a half months later, Mermaid is a picture of resilience. Her unique fever coat, a result of the severe stress her little body endured, is the only visible reminder of her fight for life. Everything else? Pure joy. Pure love. Pure kitten. Mermaid is proof that even the tiniest life can have a heart full of fight. We’re so proud of her. So in love with her. And so grateful we got to witness this tiny soul choose life.
