I’m pretty sure for dragonite, ppl we’re just annoyed at the proportions and not much change in color or committing more to the dragonair features, not necessarily that it wasn’t badass. As for Victreebel I’ve mostly heard positive responses to the Victreebel design and how goofy it is.

Megas are meant to expand on a Pokémon like slowbro a normally goofy pokemon who gets even more goofy upon mega evolving if you want an edgy pokemon just look at a ghost or dark type like banette who literally has his demons pouring out

Nah I love mega Vic but the dragonite js feels underwhelming especially cause its a pseudo especially cause in its home gen its tied for the 2nd strongest Mon (bst wise)
