I love living in Paris, but I do miss the crackle of a fire from the Pacific Northwest. I know that’s not where you are, but that’s my memories. Thank you for this post.🥂💙

We have had this the last 12 years & never take it for granted. We tire out the sod & over planted wild flowers bc the river is a Fly Way. Our neighbors hate it, lol.

A dandelion growing between sidewalk cracks. A bird nest snuggled in a ledge of concrete. Always looked for any little bit of nature when I lived in a city.

I loved taking the 1:30 am train from Grand Central Station in New York to White Plains. At that time of night it was quiet so the rats would come out of hiding. They were big as cats, and bold as they scurried looking for their dinner. It was city nature and it was beautiful.

I live in a postcard state and I am a nature lover because that is what I have grown up around. We don't have big cities and urban things, and so yes, we do live in a beautiful area, but we pay the price in other ways, which is low wages and a high cost of living. The inability to afford to buy homes is a big thing.

Rocky Mountains, South shore of Flathead Lake. Close to Glacier and Yellowstone. On my Reservation. My ancestral home. I'm very blessed. I love how beautiful it is here.

Ah, spoken like a true Texan. I grew up the panhandle and to me there is no place more beautiful.

I love to see nature popping up through urban concrete and brick.

I disagree, I am surprised to hear you say this. True nature lovers can be both. I worked my butt off to buy my cabin woods. I fell in love with nature in my suburban back yard as a child.

DISCLAIMER: I’m using ham-fisted hyperbole to make a point about the dedication required to find nature in a concrete world

My grandmom lived in a salt box home in Philly with a tiny dirtless concrete yard. When she visited every week for Sunday roast beef dinner she would go out into our tiny yard with grass and a garden and would love to get down on the ground, pull weeds and get her hands dirty with the earth. I used to watch her with such awe and admiration how much pleasure she got from the simplicity of nature. Wish she was still alive. I would be inspired to do for her what you do with your mom. Remembering you with love Mary Chew!
